Dam Disaster Memorial Renovation Project (31/01/18)

Dolgarrog Community Council received a grant of £10,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund - Sharing Heritage Programme for this worthwhile project to renovate the Dam Disaster Memorial by renewing the information boards and entrance to the walk; clearing footpaths and overgrowth and have a permanent museum /exhibition in the community centre. This is to commemorate the 1925 Dam Disaster where 16 people lost their lives and interpret the history of the village.

Dolgarrog Community Council worked closely with the community to collect information about the disaster. The local school and village youth club were greatly involved in the project and much work was done by them creating visual projects, which are on show in the community centre exhibition.

Further donations were received from the British Dam Society (£5,000), Dŵr Cymru (£5,000) and RWE Innogy (£2,500). Many more people and businesses’ were involved with giving their time and discounts on material.

The extra funding meant we were able to clear more of the site cutting back some of the trees and overgrowth exposing the huge boulders that came down in the disaster. It will also allow us to keep up on future maintenance.

Dolgarrog Community Council would like to thank everyone that took part and contributed to this project and we feel proud that we can maintain the history of this lovely village.
